I asked my newlywed daughter what music she is listening to these days. She said, “Michael and I like ‘Sittin’ on the dock of the bay.” When I wrote Let Her Go two weeks ago, I mentioned they would return home for Christmas. They are healthy, happy, and fun. They are thoughtful, kind, and soulful. This song fits the simple elegance of their new life together.
Because Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay is a classic, I feel silly saying anything about its musicality. Otis Redding’s smooth and effortless voice gently calls me to stop and sit and watch. The lyrics are sad, hopeful, waiting, in the middle of a story. The instrumentals perfectly parallel and compliment both.
As 2013 has come to an end, we’ll stop , sit, watch, be a little sad, hope and wait as our family’s story continues to unfold. And I’ll dream, set goals, and plan for the 2014. No wastin’ time.
How will you transition from 2013 to 2014?
Happy New Year to you & yours ❤ ~~~~~~~~ Angie Mc
